After 15 years of restoration
« on: March 23, 2015, 04:31:59 PM »
On my way to work Saturday,an 80 year old man  ran a stop sign  crossed 6 lanes of traffic and a divided median to T-Bone my 1978 Trans am. Hit me right at my driver's door, spun me 360 degrees. Now I'm waiting to see if she can be repaired. It was just me in the car and I went to the hospital as I was shaken and stirred. Only thing broken is my heart.  The T-top on the driver's side came off at some point and that was the only way out of the car as the door was jammed. He was driving an 2015 chevy malibu  Hertz rental and was not hurt but he came over to me to say it was "just an Old car" NEVER said I'm sorry or anything like it. The officer had to tell me to stop calling him names and cool off after the man said that to me.

Robin, I can't believe this happened, especially after you just got it repainted and all. I'm sorry man. I can't imagine how you feel. Glad you are okay, and the car can be replaced, but I know that is not what you want to hear. I don't know how I would have handled the situation myself either. Maybe she can be fixed.

Sorry this happened to you, but your still here and that's a great thing.  Just today an 80 year old went thru a trader Joes store front today. There is an issue with the older drivers that needs to be addressed.

Thank you for the Kind words. Yes posting the pictures is fine. The guy was from Philadelphia Pa on vacation. Seems people come to Florida to learn how to drive!

Dang. Sorry to see all this Robin. I can't imagine the frustration. Glad you are OK, though.

I, too, probably have some inner door parts.  If you can't find what you need, let me know.

Really sorry to see that happened to you and your car  :'( . Nothing can pay for your distress, but I hope you can get full compensation for the damages. Can't imagine fixing that door. I'd think another door would be the way to go. I recently saw that the quarter panel is being reproduced and is in stock and for sale at Auto Metal Direct. They also sell new door glass.  http://www.autometaldirect.com/

Well good news, My insurance company USAA has told the body shop to get the car right and said they had $19,000 to do it with. Thank  you for the link as I know a new quarter is needed and a new door. The body shop said that the real problem was find the parts for the Trans Am. So I will send this link to them.
