1978 Correct Trim and Decal Colors
« on: February 02, 2009, 04:41:27 PM »
I am putting together a 78 TA.  The cowl tags shows Black upper and lower paint codes, carmine red interiior.

I cannot find the build sheet unfortunately.

I dont think this is a SE car, due to the red birds/silver dash/black grille inserts.  Does anyone have any pictures of how this car is supposed to look?

I want to bring her back to factory.

It came with the gold snowflakes, Hurst T-tops, small red bird on sail panels.  Black with gold pinstriping, and an orange and red hood bird.

Also, is it a complete crime to make a "Clone" SE car?  I see that Hitman has sold a few of the clones and they seem to bring pretty good money.

Any help with pictures would be great!

Thanks, Blakers 78

No, its not a crime. Most people here are of the same mind, Its your car, do it how you like. That being said, I personally like the Black/Red combo, as there seem to be more Black/ Gold cars. Someone here will post pics of their car,( cant remember who has it) but its exactly what you say your car is supposed to be. Also they actually made a few SE cars with red interiors. I believe the correct hood bird for 78 should be Red/Charcoal. Do you have any pics of whats on your car now?

I will have to dig the wrecked hood out of the snow.  I have a few blurry pictures of the car, I will post them on here tonight.

Thanks

"BIGBRRD" is a non-SE TA and it came with the gold bird, lettering, and 7" snowflakes (I don't recall which manufacturer the wheels are from but I'll check when I have the car up in the air in the near future).  It also has the red bird emblems on the sail, red birds on the wheel center caps, and the silver dash.  The little bit of research I did on the graphics colors came up with gold being the "right" color for black TAs.  But it is your car, go with what you like!

When putting it all back together I had thought about changing the color scheme to use the red/charcoal bird and lettering and had thought about going with black on the 8" snowflakes I bought.  Thanks for the picture, that is a sharp look...!!!

Not all Black cars came with gold graphics.

I'm sure there were plenty of colors selected from the option sheet.  I didn't go with the "correct" gold scheme for the 'bird' either.  Instead of gold/black I opted to go with gold/clear to let the paint on the hood be visible instead of being covered by the flat black matte.

I agree....one good looking car!  I have never been a huge fan of the red interior, but with the black exterior and red bird it looks amazing!

ahhh shucks,   thanks guys.     ;)

here's another pic with black on the rims so you can get an idea,  this was right before i got another set i had restored in argent grey.  i like the black but the new rims work so much better with the car.   i would go with the decal you like best, i am so happy i didn't go with the gold.
