 - the guy misrepresents his air cleaner (it's an Olds 403 base, not a Pontiac base as stated), and get $330!!!!

Look at the bid history - it sure looks like a shill bid to me!

Ive bought stuff from that guy. Usually hes pretty good and knows his stuff. I wonder how he got that wrong? Glad I did but that for that kinda money!

That's not a 403 base it's a 400 base.  The 403 base doesn't have that triangle screen for the choke.  Also, there's no indent where the base gets close to the radiator hose.  The indent is in the rear like a 400 base should have.  I can't believe that thing sold for that much money.

I'm not sure what year it's from though.

Don't Pontiac air cleaner bases have the hole centered? It may be an optical illusion, but that hole sure seems offset to me.

I'm not sure if all 400's had the hole in the center.  I'm not an expert on air cleaner bases, but the 403's I've seen don't have that metal filter.  My W72 car has the hole in the center.  But not all 400 air cleaner bases are the same.  For example, my daughters 77 trans am differs from mine in that the air filter isn't as tall.  If I install an air filter from my 78 into her car, the shaker won't fit right.

I guess they could have changed the choke system on the 403 at some point to require the metal filter, but there's no indent on the front where the base hits the radiator hose.

You would think things would be more standardized. I just installed a EGR valve on my 78.  There were three different back pressure transducers and two different EGR valves in 1978 for the 400 alone.  I don't know how they kept everything straight.
