The Marty's new tires
« on: August 09, 2009, 12:14:12 PM »
Hi all,the Marty has her new BFG's  ,and I feel a heck of alot safer driving at highway speeds .
They are 255-60R 15's ,and the ride quality is about as good as it get's .You have to love T/A's for that characteristic.
Each tio his own ,but to tell you the truth ,if I could do it all over again I would have gone with the factory size . I find the tires just look to fat in the front for my taste ,maybe to big for the rear wheels to .
Maybe if a Guy was to go with a 70 in the front and a 60 in the back ,I don't know ?
We have nothing but smoke from on going fires in BC right now ,makes for a tough time getting a decent back drop. I forgot the one critical piece to of my tri pod ,which would have helped me correct major exposure problems with these pics . Theres always next time

Here are some dirty pics of the tires to give you an idea . It was raining on the wy back home ,and my alley has a bit of dirt and gravel mixed in unfortunatly .
I think they look to fat ,but each to his own . Money is scarce ,so these are it for a while

I kinda like the new shoes the Marty is sporting... I think you will like the wider tread too as you drive itmore.. a little extra width goes a long way on tracking...

It`s great to have new BFG`s they look great ;D thats why I am going to buy some but I think I`m going to get a narrower tire for the front. the 215/70R15 is near the same as the circuference ot the 255/60 bfg

I would go with the factory 225 /70R-15 I believe they were .Actually I may buy that size all the way around next time .I am not all that happy with the way they bulge over the wheel . I hate to see them on a 7 inch wheel . But some people may like that look .
I have to say the handling is superior to the old ones .But they were uniroyals from 78,so thats kinda apples to oranges .
Before when I made a turn from a stop sign ,I always seem to get this tire squeal that I could live without . I was just worried about the cop's really . No matter how carefully I was on the gas from a start ,I got the tires breaking loose a little  .  Now I don't think I can break them loose if I wanted to  lol . God are these BFG's sticky

I like your new tires ...
I've the 225/70 R-15's on the '79s.  They look small in width.

On the '76, I've 295/50 R15 in the back and 235/60 R15 in the front.

Thank you for getting new tires!  As you know, I have worried about the originals coming apart and destroying the wheelwells.  You did keep the originals, right?

They weren't bald- they only had 24xxx miles on them when the car left here last year.

yes there safe and sound taking up space for reasons I'll  never understand lol . The ride is nothing short of imcredible when you look at the dated technology . As I mentioned ,I feel  much safer at highway speeds ,they were worth the money just for the piece of mind .
I am hoping that the differance in size doesn't disqualify me from getting collector plates next spring . I should have bought a BFG in a 225-70rR 15 instead .  These ones hug the road incredibly though

I think they look good.  Hope it doesn't screw up your collector plates just because the tires are somewhat larger than stock.

295/50's? holy crap... did you have to really squeeze them on the rim? any pics of them with the fender wall?
