Paint is paint, it all burns off the exhaust. the best Ive found is the eastwood ceramic engine paint. this paint will stay on the exhaust port of the heads/manifold longer. all the corp blue paints (brands) are not the correct color. even the PPG mixing chart says
* this corp blue was used from 77-81 and is not correct for all GM models.
I had this paint mixed with 1stage paint , we used the mix from PPG and then added a dark yellow to it . we added little bits at a time till the color was really close.
the lid is the corp blue from ppg and the engine is the color we came up with.
on a (clean) no dirt, greese. the block cast is pitted so just the paint is fine. it'll fill into the pits and lock onto the cast. on the smooth turned surfaces a etching primer can be used.
the only reason the paint peals off on them is because the painter didnt get the oils off the engine.
keep in mind the rattle can engine degreaser's are petroleum based with kerosene to help cut the oil's.
so you might think its clean but you still have oil on it. I use oven cleaner and a pressure washer. then mix a paste with comet cleaner and the purple cleaner. and a good hard brush. and pressure wash it off. you know its clean when it starts to rust as it drys (dries) (spelling)
