« on: August 21, 2007, 02:54:12 PM »
im only 15 just got my permit but me and my dad picked up a 76 trans am from a guy on craigslist for only $800. were trying to restore it to the best condiction before i hit 16 so if anyone has tips or websites that sell rust free parts pretty cheap just post. thanks im glad to be apart of the TA family. 8) oh ya the guy sold it to me thinking didnt run but when my dad checked it out and tryed to start it and it rolled right over we just needed to pick up a timing chain cover and new water pump and now it drives really good.

sorry about the pics being pretty big  :-\

Hi and welcome to 78TA...you have come to the right place for T/A fanatics and advice. Looks like someone switched noses on you if it is a '76 since it has a '77 or '78 nose on it in the pix.

There are plenty of places for parts, aside from the big parts companies like Year One, Ames, Performance Years, etc...there are parts for sale on this  site as well as others like Craigs List, eBay, Franks Pontiac Parts, etc.

Any questions? Just ask...we love to help almost as much as we love pictures (so you're off to a good start in our book ;) )

Yeah, the whole front has been changed; '76 has 2 round headlights as opposed to the 4 rectangular ones that you have. The gauges I can see also appear to be from a later model also ....

The wheel flares and fender air dams appear to have been molded in to the body at some point....??

Welcome to the site. Looks like they changed the whloe front clip. As far as the rubber nose lining up, its alomst impossible. LOl  The hood and shaker are 77 as well. The gauges look like 80-81, but cant really see. What is the top mph on the speedo? If the body is as solid as it looks, you got a great deal. So feel free to ask for help, parts or whatever else you need

Welcome!
Nice score!
I wish I had one at your age!
I had to work and buy mine myself.
So.......................keep your Dad! ;D
To verify your car, did you check the vin for the year and engine and such.
Also, check the data plate for codes.
Besides this site and others, you can check codes for your car.
Like engine size, color and year, just to check against what you really have.
The 100 mph speedo is correct for both '76 and '77.
In fact, the 160 speedo was last used in 1974.
If you have any questions, post the vin and data plate info, and someone will post a reply for you.
