1979 Pontiac Trans Am Monogram 1/8th scale Model Kit
« on: April 08, 2009, 10:34:42 PM »
I came across this tonight during my regular eBay searching.  I figured I would post it since I know they are hard to find.  I don't think my wife would appriciate ME buying this, but hopefully someone else can!

$225 ? For this? I don't get it, can you explain why it's so expensive?

I know they are very rare and hard to find in the "unassembled" form.  They also didn't make many Trans Am models in 1/8th scale. I don't know if that price is high or not, but it appeares to be in great condition.  Maybe limey can fill us in on the details.  His model build is here:

He did an amazing job!  It is worth looking at!

Back when I was just out of high school I had a '80 ta that I redid but it was in silver.  I remember buying one of these through a model magazine and when it came, the top of the car was cracked.  I called the guy and told him the problem.  He sent another out free and told me to keep the one I had.  I ended up repairing the broken one and painting them both in extra base/clear I used on the actual car.  I found a person that could free hand paint very good.  So they were able to paint the birds and names on it perfect.  Really looked great when I had it with me at car shows.
Rich enough to own a TA, too poor to keep'm all ;)

Hey guys, those kits are getting more and more expensive.  My wife attempted to buy me one for Christmas.  I will try to make a really long story as short as possible.  Without my knowledge, she was able to talk a buyer on ebay into selling her his model after she emailed him a picture of my Brown T/A.  Unfortunately, the kit arrived and was completely crushed in shipping :-[.  After getting her money back on that one (another long story) she found another.  Again, this one was also damaged in shipping. Long and short, she ended up paying about $65 for the model.  Expensive still, but a lot less than the original price.

If you guys decide to buy one of these models and have it shipped, get the insurance!!!  Also ask the seller to box the model in another box and pack carefully.

As for the build I posted, I'm an idiot ::).  A month or two ago I tried to clean up my gallery and erased most of the pictures not realizing they would also be erased from the thread ::)  I will be happy to re post the pictures in the gallery if anyone ever wants to see them ;D

I bet he will find someone willing to   that pay that much money for that model . I wish I had the cash after seeing Limey's ,as it was fantastic .
If they  had a 78 in 1/8th scale ,I would pay that kind of money for it right now np
