« on: March 01, 2014, 07:14:10 PM »
Having trouble finding the correct subframe engine mounts the mounts i currently have are 5 1/2 on the engine and 4 1/2 on the subframe and every parts store I have been to they cannot order them because they are only OEM made? Any links that might have them available?

A 73 481988 400 has mounting 5 bolt holes per side- with the correct brackets it should drop into a 79 TA that came with a 301 or 400. Without those brackets you're gonna have a hard time- does the subframe have the correct clamshell mounts for a Pontiac V-8?

The 79 originally came with the 403 olds but the block was busted due to the previous owner running it hot with no oil or water. So we pulled it out scrapped it and bought a 400 Pontiac out of a 73 Firebird and bored and stroked it to a 461.

From my understanding, doing the same thing myself. That you will need a set of 400 motor brakes from a 400 out of a Fire Bird set up. The 403 and 400 share the same motor mount (on cross member). From what I found the motor mounts (clam shells/on cross member) are bolted in the same spot. If you bolt your brackets to the engine and your motor mounts also, with the engine and transmission in the car you use the transmission cross member to help find the right placement of the motor mounts on the cross member.

If anyone has different info or if this sounds correct please feel free to help out.
