Interior paint
« on: May 17, 2007, 10:40:43 PM »
While I have my interior out, I want to touch it up with some fresh black paint.  Im talking about all the plastic or metal interior trim pieces, seat back covers, sail panels etc.
I have decided to use SEM spray paint, but my question is which color of black should I get?  Sem Landau black, Sem Satin black, or SEM Gloss black?   Any Ideals?

Thats the problem as most of my interior parts are faded from the sun and heat here in Texas. :(
I bought a complete dash for my car on ebay out of Ohio, some door panels from Mich. and a center consol from Iowa.
Most of the cars here in the south except mine, the bodys are ok but the interior is pretty much trashed from the heat over the years.  The reason my body has rust is because the previous owner was in the Army and had taken the car over to Germany which has a lot of salt on the roads during the winter months.
Anyway, I need to know what shade of black I need for my interior parts.
Thanks, Hammer.

I don't think I would get the gloss black, maybe get a can of the other 2 and do one piece in each color see what you like best or which matches best and then go with that color.

Good suggestion, I vote for this choice.

What about the seat backs?  From the pictures I have seen, they seem to shine more than the other pieces?

You mean the backs of the front seats?  They are all made of the same stuff  as the rest of the plastic so should all have a similar color.  Maybe just the light you saw them in ?  I never notice a difference in the color.

The dash is out of the car now and is in remarkable good condition.  I dont plan on dyeing it at all.
Do you remember the color of black you used when working at TA Specialties?
Thanks

You know places like classic industries supply the correct interior dyes.  I think OER is the manufacturer.  Anyway, the camel tan i got from them worked wonderfully whereas the camel I tried from another shop bubbled up in a couple of months.

Most of the ones that I have tried have not lasted against anything touching them.  They last great as long as you do not scratch them with anything.  SEM makes some good ones as well.
