how do i route the battery cables

does anyone have a close up pic of the battery area on a 78 t/a pont 400, and which bolt does the battery ground go to? please help

I believe you want to route the ground to the head bolt on the right of the #1 cylinder and run a nut down on it.

 Yea..., stock, that number one head bolt would have had a threaded section
above the head of the bolt, yours has been replaced. The cable would have
secured there.

JJR is right the head bolt should have a threaded section above the bolt head for a nut to secure the - cable to the block.

You should have a metal tube on the front that the positive cable routes through too.  You could attach the ground wire to block with that blot.  Don't you just love the "improvements" people made to these cars over the years.

I've got ARP head bolts on the '76 - no studs - thought it was to the right. 

Here's a '79 routing;
