Trans Am wheel flares
« on: June 16, 2008, 02:05:32 PM »
Anybody bought any of these from an aftermarket supplier? Wanting to know how they fit, I am thinking about buying from Texas Trans Am but did not know how they fit. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

There has been a few discussions on aftermarket wheel flairs on TAC. Just do a search and it'll turn up something.

I got some fron Ames.  they are fiberglass and are outstanding!
I got a set from classic Ind and sent them back and was unsure about Ames until I saw them.  fit better than the original GM's!

What did they cost you the Texas Trans Am ones are 360.00 for the set and they are also fiberglass. The ones on your car look good.

My rears are fiberglass.
You may want to call Ames and find out who the manufacturer is.  i think mine were $99 each a few years ago.
Like I said, these are better than the originals.

I found my Ames catalog and they are 99.00 and 79.00 same price as Texas T/A I am going to call both of them tomorrow. I appreciate the help with this, I have seen some that the fit was nowhere near the fender a gap as wide as the Grand Canyon.

Just make sure you get the right ones and you will be so happy.
I just could noy believe the fit and finish.  I thought they may be heavy but they are as light as the GM.
Ames recomended them over the others they cary.

Did you have to do any modifications to the flare? I talked with Ames today and Brian said he has them on his 79 and he had to use a dremel on them, but they look great.

Let me know what you think when you get the.  Even if you need to trim them it won't be hard.  The finish does not really need sanding, just scuff it up to paint.  They will mount right up and include the bolts!

I alao had a GM hat needed a lot of sanding.

ames carries the parts place flares now, not sure about a couple years ago. the parts place flares are crap! i bought a pair & they didnt fit at all & the surface was all wavy almost like a washboard. jason d at tac said he had to block sand them smooth & also had to manipulate the fitting of them with a heat gun etc.

unless i got a bad set i would stay away from the parts place spoilers, they seem to supply most of the aftermarket companies out there too, i called like 3 or 4 & they all said they carry parts place.

from my research i would suggest texas trans am's flares, they are about the same price & much better quality.

I got mine on thursday and they were fiberglass, they were as smooth as my GM ones and looked the same on the inside and out. I dropped them off at the paint shop so I hope they will be ok.

Hitman sells these too, I got a set from him.  They aren't installed yet though.
