Can anyone give me some help on these numbers and letters?  Mostly the AA 852.  the block is from a 1978 w-72 4-speed car.  Thanks in advance.  (see attached photo)

Its right were the Partial VIN is.

Those numbers there do not look like they were stamped by Pontiac or the Factory.  They look like something after the fact, but have not a clue as to what.

I would bet those numbers are from a machine shop.  Lots of shops will stamp parts as they come in to keep track of them.  Your engine has probably been rebuilt and that is probably the ticket number from the rebuilder.

That was my guess also, tracking numbers from a machine shop.
