Where can I find the engine code on a Chevy 305 engine.

I have an 81 T/A.  Where can I locate the engine code on my 305 Chevy engine.

My code was on the drivers side near the back of the engine but still on top. you have to lean in pretty far but you can see it. BTW it was an 88 block.
