Topic: 79 301 car with a 400 wire harness

I have a 79 301 4 speed car with a 400 in it. on the wire harness there is no, or is there a wire that go's to the starter? my 403 car does. but do not see one in this harness. the motor was in the car when I got it and was running.  it's been out and rebuilt and don't remember how it was wired. + bat cable to the starter. - to the head bolt. I have the wire to the small stud on the starter. I thought 2 wires when on the bigger stud with the +bat cable.  or do I need to use the secondary smaller +wire from the bat to the alternator? i will get some pics of what i have.

Should be a single purple wire with a ring terminal on it which would go down to the starter solenoid. I don't see that in any of the pics. Check the harness you have to see if its burried somewhere - like someone clipped it short.

Ohh yeah and those wires shown in the 2nd photo....are those in good condition? From the photos it looks like they may need some help/replacement?

seems i read here that small + wire goes to alt on 400

there is no single purple wire . and a Pontiac guy told me today to run the small wire from the bat + side to the alternator. and yes the weirs need some TLC. I'm going to fix them as soon as I no for sure what goes were. I do no the 403 in 79 has a duel wire on a ring that goes to the starter.  all I remember taking off the starter was the bat cable and the small eyed wire.  and the motor was in running condition. is there any one on here working on a 301 or a 400 car that can send me pics of there harness to the starter.
