Trans Am Nationals Judging Poll (Please Take)
« on: September 06, 2010, 05:05:57 PM »
I am trying to collect some data to show to the club during our meeting.

I am wondering what your opinions are on posting the scores of the winner's (The final score- Not the individual score in each category) when they list the winner's on the Trans Am Nationals Website. Pontiac Nationals did it this year and that is where I "Stole" the idea from.

My thinking is this:

1. When you order your judging sheets it allows you to see how close you were to placing and or moving up to the next place.

2. It allows you to put your score in perspective against the other scores. For example if I get my score sheet and I scored a 70 I may think I did a horrible job cleaning the car or something along those lines, but if I see that the winner only scored a 79 then I just know the judges were a little more harsh this year.

Keep in mind we would only post the final score that is used to find out what place you are in. We would NOT post the whole judging sheet. Also, we will only be posting the scores of those who placed. NOT everyone.

I think a lot of other car groups make this available.

It's bragging rights or a way to understand the path to
glory.

It could also shed light on judges that grade differently,
and that would go toward fairness and consistancy.

It could possibly cause judges to agree on standards and that
would be quite helpful.

The Corvette folks have standards, while seeming a tad snobish
from afar, it actually serves the group very well.

If you park your machine at the show, it's a public statement,
someone will think it's the best in show and still others will pick
at things that you'll not believe or agree with.

 Why not document it...

Its a good thing. Would give motivation to a car owner thatsaw they were just a couple points away from placing. They could get thier score sheets and see what areas to hit harder for the next year. So, the score sheets would still be usefull to have.  Like me for instance. I placed second in SE2 class. I would love to know just how many points from 1st I came. I'm sending for my sheets to see what areas need attention for  next year. The same works for any position. Same in racing, those guys are always looking at chasing the fastest time, so why not acar show where you take a shot at the top score?

Yes.  A person cannot know where they stand with their car without some kind of measurement.  this would at least give some type of way for those who didn't place a semblance of where they stand for next year.  it is a good idea.

It would be nice to know.  I am almost convinced that if your car is the wrong color or not a convertible, just using as an example,  it will be judged differently. I feel that its more about the personal preferences and not strictly points on the sheet.  At least with the sheet you can justify what there was that didn't appeal to the judge, or at least the excuse for it.  I dont fault the judges, it would be hard to judge especially if two vehicles are perfectly identical you have to so by your taste.

I think all scores should be posted , and judges need to be people who know the cars not sixteen year olds who don't know what a Firehawk is.To be frank I hate loseing to lesser cars just because the judge may not like the color of my car or some other personal taste type thing.
