Who is best to restore the TA dash
« on: January 25, 2007, 03:25:57 PM »
I got a quote from Just Dashes for $950.00 beans to restore my dash.  I got a quote from DashRestoreUSA for $550.00 (I think).  Does any one know about the later company's quality?  Thanks again for any replies.

$950!!! WOW!!!!

Does that include shipping both ways?  Man, that is a stout price.  Looks like I may be going with Dashboard Restorations as well.

I can't remember the exact cost breakdown.  I have 75.00 in a good core dash, plus shipping and the actual cost of the dash repair, the total was around $1100.00.  The best I remember, 950.00 was without shipping.

I just received my dash back from Dashboard Restorations today. It came out great. I have never used Just Dashes so I can't compare, but I have no complaints about my dash. I would definately recommend them. :D

I hope I can find a really nice used dash for my 74, but face it...thats getting harder and harder. Ideally a NOS dash would be nice...but unfortunately I have to feed the kids, private school, college and that kind of thing.

Hopefully some nice repros will be out and if not I hope to find a good restoration service by the time my 74 dash goes back in.

My 78 dash has a bit of some waves, but nothing I can't live with as long as there are no cracks.

Mark... you should consider having your 74's dash restored... at least then you're starting from new with all new materias (foam/vinyl).  NOS is great, but it's still 30 years old.  I've heard horror stories of people buying NOS or really excellent used pieces only to install them and have them crack in a year or so once the sun starts beating down thru the windshield on them.

I found a MINT original on e-bay for $650.00 I looked for a long time and I thought that was a crazy amount!!!  Now, after the fact I went out and saw a friend of my dad's who redid a 79 and he had apparently a dash very comperable to my original (two cracks, not obscene but real noticeable) and he had a local guy called "the Vinyl Doctor"  I assume there is one of these guys in every major city, but he fixed (filled etc.) his dash for $75.00 and I looked at it for five minutes trying to spot where it was fixed, finally after he pointed out where and another long look  I could tell but not easily, anyway enough rambling just food for thought--I am thinking of having him do my original and if it looks as good as the one I saw done reselling it
