Topic: black plastic box under drivers seat in a 74 ta

found a box with some wires under my seat , anybody know what it's for , i have misplaced the box

that is a seat belt- ignition interlock module.  disables the ignition if the seatbelt isnt engaged.

Yes. you may need to unplug the connectors under the dash to the right of steering column.

actually im pretty sure the car wont run without it.  i just dealt with this in my 72 firebird prooject.  it was a base firebird without rally gauges, i decide to convert to rally gauges & used a 74 wire harness.  after studying the gm wiring diagram, i found that just unplugging the connectors won't do any good since it is just like the seat belt isn't clicked -- & therefore the car wont start.  i could be wrong but thats how it shows in the diagram.

if you need the box i would sell the one i have.

Should be a simple grounding circuit, so find where the connection completes/switches and determine a way to jumper it

I have mine disconnected in my 74. no issues. There is a tech bulletin on how to disconnect the system.  I hooked it up by accident and no start. Quickly re-disconnected system.

theres got to be a way to work around the box, dont you think.

yes you can by-pass it by just completing the circuit.  the diagram looked like  just unplugging the wires wouldn't do it.  worth a try though.
