1971 Casting 94 Head
« on: May 20, 2010, 02:01:19 PM »
Are casting number 94 heads from a 1971 350 worth any thing performance wise? I have a set and I was wondering if they are worth using on 455 or if I would be better off using 6X-4s. I noticed that they both have a close chamber size. I also noticed they have smaller valves. Any help would be much appreciated!

Have the #94's CC'd but I'd wager that once you do that you'll find it'll push your compression ratio up to the point on the 455 where you'll need race fuel to keep the engine from detonating/pinging itself to pieces.

From the below website these are listed at 68cc's:

From the below website you'll be in the 11 range for compression:

That's well over what's recommended on pump gas.

FWIW: I'm running a set of 6x-4's on my 455 and I have no complaints. Car hauls with 3.42:1 gears out back.

I looked at the Pontiac Power site and it lists the heads as 96 CC in 1971. Not to mention I was just curious because I realized my 1969 Tempest in the back still had an engine in it. It has sat for a year, and it just hit me earlier today to check and see what engine and heads were in it. I have a set of 6X-4's ready to put on a 455 right now. I will be using the 6X-4s, but I just figured I would ask about th 94s just to see.
