Door activation light switches
« on: July 01, 2006, 04:04:09 AM »
Hi all,
The light switches inside my doors have worn away the paint almost to the point of metal where they depress. The ends of the switches are also bare metal. I've seen replacement switches available with what looks like a plastic/nylon cap. Is this original and would the switch malfunction or earth out any way if both the door and switch were metal but still depressed when closed?

Hey Ben, All the dome light door switches for 2nd gen F bodies that I have seen are metal. So, should be normal for the paint to rub off on the door where the pin makes contact. If memory serves me correctly the switch itself is only a ground circuit. When the pin is pushed in it does not groud out (earth as you say). Once the door is open and the pin protrudes it grounds (earths) internally through the switch which is screwed into the body of the car and completes the circuit allowing the light to illuminate.
