I did it
« on: June 25, 2007, 01:32:46 PM »
Well, I finally did it...I started to take apart my car Friday. As some of you may know, I've been hauling this car around for over 15 years and either didnt have the garage to start the work, or the money, or simply, I was just too damn scared to start, being afraid that I may never get it back together. But friday, my son and I grabbed some wrenches and removed the hood, fenders, and started on the front end. Poor car, heres some "sad pics" to show what I'm starting with. The journey begins with one small step.

Awesome!!!  Taking apart a car can be addicting....make notes as you go along just in case it has to sit for a good while.  I let my daughter turn wrenches everynow and then to give her an idea of what I love to do.  Who knows maybe she'll be part of the gang one day.  Glad to see you exicted about finally getting to work on your bird.

Excellent!!  Make sure you take lots of digital pics, they help with the assembly and bag and tag everything you can. You'll be glad you did.  This will be cool watching you do the restore.

I have more b4 pics, how bout this one, whoever owned this car b4 my father bought it in 80, they'd had a fender bender on the front pass side.
that passenger fender has close to a 1/2" of bondo at the front end. Which makes me wonder about another thread, if i replace the fender, is it still original? lol.

notice the different grills, a 77 on the pass, and the orig 78 on the driver

Nice project you've got there Magnum, you've got your work cut out for you.

Regarding you question about the originality if the finder is replaced, remember: it's only original once. Once you start replacing stuff it is either restored or restified. You might as well replace the fender and do up the car the way you want it.

That is the funny thing about restoring the car... once you get rolling, it really picks up fast.  As it sits there, you kinda get anxious about taking more off and going just a little bit further.... then all of a sudden it is 4:00am and you have half the car apart.  Once you start working, your enthiusiasm builds and things go faster.  Good luck on the project.
