Just a suguestion, have someone with you at all times there. If something turns up about his wife you want a witness and don't want to be on the six o'clock news as a "person of intrest" or as the "person being questioned".

As for the build sheet, pull out the bottom of the back seats then remove the two bolts holding the seat back in place then look behind it for the build sheet.

to get the steering wheel off.... youll pop off the horn button, unscrew the nut on the inside, use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel, and there should be a phillips screw head holding the ignition cylinder in.....

Thanks for the info. I got it off and the car home. Nothing surprising in the trunk either  ;D

I got lucky and found the build sheet under the back seat. Can you tell me what the items listed toward the bottom in the big box marked 107. Are these codes of possible options or options installed on this car? The reason I ask is I see a <Y82 Special Appea list and I thought that was for T-Tops. I also see a <FB0 Trans Am SP C

Thanks

Build sheet looks to be in good shape...nice find. Go to http://www.firebirdtransamparts.com/  and click on Trans Am Tech Talk at the top...then click Build Sheet Bingo.......Joe and Brian have some great info on there.

Well I was happy at first to see this which would indicate a special edition

But now it looks as if this is not the build sheet for this car as the numbers don't match my VIN/Data Plate.  >:( I'm guessing someone parted out a special edition and put the seats and wheels on this one. Oh well

By the engine numbers I take it this is not the original motor since YT isn't an option in 1977. So how can I tell what year this motor is?

Thanks again!

The YT engines came in 1974 and 1967-69.  Most likely it is a 1975 Pontiac 400.  There is a date code on the back of the engine to see when the engine wa built.

Well as luck would have it neither engine could be turned over but not all is lost. I got lucky, again, and found a 1974 Trans Am in Oklahoma with a good RUNNING motor for $350. I went down last weekend and bought the car. The guy had stripped some body parts off for his project but it had a good rebuilt 400 that came out of a 1976 Trans Am, a good trany and rear end.

It was a funny sight to see the firebird with no front clip, doors or interior being driven, by visegrips for a steering wheel, up the street to load on my trailer.

I dropped both my restore bird(77 TA) and the 74 with the motor off at my nephews which says he'll have it done by this weekend.

Then I start the body work.

Here is a picture of the 74 Firebird being driven to the garage. It was a hilarious sight.
