Author Topic: Heater blower speed (Read 7430 times)

It seemed like in the past that if the mode control (heat, a/c, vent, etc) was set to off that the blower did not run at all. Now the blower runs in low speed no matter what the mode setting is. The only difference in the off position is that you can't increase the blower speed. Does that sound right? If not, what might be the problem (I did already just replace the blower relay). Thanks.

Mine was doing that too. It turns out that the master switch that is located inside the ac control unit was bad. Try checking that.

Is that the switch on top of the heat/ac control unit that one of the wiring connectors attaches to?

Yes, where all the vacumn lines attach that you were talking about on another thread.

Most likey it's the A/C control as Eagle 1 said or it's a faulty wire from the low blower delay swtich to the A/C control.

Check the service manual in the A/C section. They have a trouble shooting section on the blower.

By the way, the blower motor should be running in the low cycle whenever the car is running. The blower motor should never be off.

ta78w72 is right, the blower will be on low when the ignition switch is on.
Actually my car wouldnt change blower speeds when I switched it to medium or high.

Just to make sure I understand - so it is correct that the blower runs in low when the ignition is on, even when the mode control (heat/ac/vent/etc) is in the off position?

Yes, the blower motor runs all the time. It is a federal safety standard, in case carbon monoxide gets into the car. By the way, you've got a beautiful car.

I was wondering where the AC control relay was that Eagle 1 had the issue with.

Eagle1 was referring to the AC control. That's the one with the slider switches that has the fan switch on the side. To get to it you need to take the dash Bezel out.....if you don't know how to do that, let us know and we'll take you through it.

It's possible that they pulled the connector out a little when they installed the radio.

I think that I had the exact same problem. When I bought my car three months ago they told me that the blower motor did not work anymore & before I took it into the shop to get it fixed I did a little investigating. I took out the glove box & felt around back there & found that there was a plug that had just come undone right behind the fan switch & when I put it back together it worked just fine.

My problem is that my fan still works it is always on a very low speed, but the slider switch will not increase the speed.

Did you check the ac rotary switch that I am talking about?
