Topic: more y88 info???

I know the total numbers for the y88's with a 4speed with an auto or with a 403 but does anyone have a clue how many of them were ws6's and how many of each? mine is a ws6 auto im going to guess out of the 6,000something that there were only a hanfull that were ws6 cars. the other two i have seen personally were not ws6 cars. it would really be interesting to see the real break downs mine has every dang option except the w72 the 4speed and non power windows but all the other high end options were ordered just really makes me think how many were really built just like mine was.

Unfortunately Pontiac did not keep good track of numbers back then and 1978 was one of the worst years for that.  As for how many of them were WS6 cars would only be a guess at best.

and out of them 880 with a 403 i believe it is 400 of them were sticks.

No 403's came with the manual transmission.  So, all 880 were automatics.

hmm i could have swore...........s#^* your right they dont have the 4speed  bracket holes driled or tapped on the block yet ah ha.

  They don't even list a single manual transmission made in a Y88.

Question:  Does the 403 block have the boss for mounting the clutch z-bar?  I know the crank isn't bored for the pilot bearing, but I don't know about the clutch shaft mounting ball on the block.

i know i looked into doing a 4speed with my old 78 that had a 403 and i couldnt mount the linkage crap to the block on the drivers side there were no holes.

ok yeah mine i think is odd had every option ordered except power windows 4speed and the w72. i have power trun tach clock cruise air sw6 cloth interior came factory with a casset. rear defrost all coutesy lights rear speaker  L78 auto trans w/s antenna etc im suprised it didnt atleast come with the w72 and power windows. the auto i can understand plus the factory gearing was holy crap low a 258 posi rear end no wonder i can do 75 mph at 2200rpm without overdrive.

I understand what you are talking about, it makes you wonder what people were thinking when they ordered these cars.

Mine has the body side molding, ac, crusie, rear defrost, soft ray glass, power windows, radio accomidation package but without the radio, tilt wheel, intermitant wipers, velour deluxe interior, ws6, and of course y88 package.

Why wouldnt a person ordering $1259 appearence packange and these other options not spend another $75 to get the w72?

exactly yes i have tilt and soft ray glass and body side moldings as well. just another 100 or 2 and it would have had all the bells and whistles they had to offer. makes you wonder how many are the same and how many are odd balls. the other 2 i have seen didnt have the ws6 package but they had everything else one had a 4 speed and one was an auto i owned the auto non ws6 my uncle is now the owner of that one.......

My Y88 came with everything except------no tilt wheel or power trunk release.  And only 1 rear speaker.

It's a 4 speed (no cruise control), with the W72 and WS6.

I have read somewhere that a "true Y88" (whatever that means) came with the 3:42 gears.  I thought all Y88's came with a 3:42 rear gear.
