Old faithful or stump puller???
« on: December 04, 2016, 04:30:57 PM »
I'm building a 461, Ross flat tops, zero decked, 290 edelbrock d-ports from butler, 1.5 roller rockers, rpm manifold, cliffs q-jet, 4 tube exh. Car is a 78 ta. 4 speed 3.42 rear . Street car, some 1/8 mile trips too. Been looking at SD's stump puller and old faithful. Do I really want my power band to be right off idle???  I had a hard time not spinning the tires with the worn out stock 400. But the OF cam doesn't come on till 2500. Could I advance it a few degrees to bring it in sooner? I have had too many sleepless night thinking about this. I'm ready to lay my money down and make a pick. Except I just can't pick!!!

Sounds like it's your driving style that's the issue, not the engine choice! Maybe not floor it every time the lights change. There's a  lot of guys driving big power machines who can move off without laying rubber.
