Cap, rotor, coil, etc. are all the same for GM HEI's.

The unit themselves are different for clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation.

Of course the internal modules differ by year.

Ok I will check that out then. But like I said before I got a brand new coil and its still happening so Im leaning more towards the ICM.

I asked my buddy at the Carb Shop who did my distributor. He said first thing to check the the little ground strap that sits under the coil then routes out to the plug. He said a lot of guys when replacing the coil don't realize the strap stuck to old coil and forget to put it back in. When looking at your plug on the dist see if it has three connectors just like the one on the wires.

thats more like it...Thats why I suggested switching cap and coil. I know the tach isnt the problem. IMO! I had to lean toward the coil...Just how I'm built..

you can use that one, I would say the problem is within the ignition control module, they HATE heat... if it gets too hot it will fry... thats why when you buy one its supplied with a grease you coat the bottom of it with.... nice thing is that they are cheaper than a coil. Justin brought up a good point with the ground strap too.... the body of the distributor is grounded out through the block.... and your tach is just a signal wire, with your tach grounding through the instrument cluster..... and yes all HEI coils interchange....
