1978 t/a paint done (final pics 08/30/09)
« on: August 06, 2009, 02:57:58 PM »
i stopped by the shop to see if they started and they have. there's only one guy and the only thing he is working on is my car until its in paint....i went in a few days ago to see what was taking so long and they told me it'd be done the 14th. i told them my birthday was the 15th and he guarantied me I'd have it before then(they started the next day).....they also said i'd have it by the end of last month so we'll see how it goes. it took them a solid month just to start on it.......the a-piller is almost finished. he said he had a little more grinding to do then some more filler, and he took all the little nicks out the bumper. he also fixed the rust on the dash

When i got there he was jacking it up to start on the rocker panels. i'll stop by everyday or so and take some more pics............check out the back spacing on the rims i think its perfectly flush with the out side of the fenders(perfect to my taste at least) something i didn't notice was how bad the mirror pushed in the door. pics of it all......(pics were taking with my phone so there not that great.)

notice all the cars around. its a restoration shop not a body shop. they might be taking a while but im still glad i went with them.

Yeah from what I hear the body work is a lot of work, and sometimes things don't go as planned. My 79 has takin longer than it's supposed to, but in the end it's worth it :)

Looks like they're making progress. Don't push them as you may not like the final results if they're rushed. But at the same time it shouldn't take them a year to do this either :)

My ride looked like a work bench for about 6 weeks.... during the process... but if they do the work to make it smooth the paint will go off...

Any time a painter says 1 week double it... them next week when he says 1 week add another week... I built 4 corvettes a few mustangs in the last 10 years and they always take longer but if you are nice patent and show interest most of the time it will come out better than you expect...

Look like the shop has some sweet rides... bet they have not been through a fence...

it will be in paint this Wednesday. I should have it by late Thursday or early Friday.

for some reason the windows weren't working. i started it up and got the driver to go up but the passenger side is still stuck..anyone have this problem from leaving them down for a while?

Body work does take a LONG time. It took me around 4 hours just to sand my car. And thats with 80 grit paper. Thats not including the pass. side front fender( being replaced) rear spoiler, rear bumber, nose, roof( previously sanded/primed ),  and hood( also being replaced ).  Then another 3 hours to prime it.  Theres 7 hours of body work and not including doing any body filler or block sanding..  Then the hood is a whole different story. Those hood birds somehow get imbeded into them and it's rediculously ( spelling ?) hard to sand down, and takes a large amount of time.  If I did all of the body panels it would probably be over 10 hours  just to sand/prime.

well the paint is still being held up. looks like i wont have it till next week. he said he was making sure the body was perfect before paint. so i can deal with that. i might be able to get pics tomorrow but they said it wont be dry, and the guy wont be there to finish everything up. so we'll see

well they just finished painting it an hour or 2 ago and i got some pics.......im not real happy with the way the rockers came out. they still look damaged. tell me what yall think....should i tell them to do it over? i think i should. i have $3500 in body work. i think it should be close to perfect. to be completely honest it looks terrible on both sides. :'(
