Ok, well, we cannot afford the price of the welding job that the body shop wants.

Frank has decided that he is going to try this on his own.  He "did" do some welding years ago, but I am sure he needs some "tips" on it again.

I don't know who it was or where it was posted..........but someone posted great info on welding for the quarters.

If you read this and it is you.........please repost it again for me!

THANKS!! ;D

Ok first suggestion since Frank hasn't done this in a while...get some scrap metal and practice, practice, practice...did I mention PRACTICE?  ;D

Get the hang of the welder on scrap metal first before tackling the car. Then I'd start small like any rust repair in the trunk (mostly flat metal), floors, and tail panel. Then I'd go after some of the bigger areas leaving the quarters for last. That way your best welds are the ones that really count.

Hahahaha, Brian,

Of course he will practice on something else rather than See Ya! ;)

We just picked up a welder and I bet Frank can't wait to get his grubby little hands on it to start practicing.  It's like a new toy for him.  ;D

I asked him if he had all the tools needed, like the helmet, and he actually has all the misc. items to do welding.  Helmet, special gloves........etc.

So, I will update you guys/gals and of course take pictures of his practice work.

After he masters the practice, I'm sure he will move onto See Ya.   8)

So, after See Ya is welded back together, then I guess the priming, glass (windshield) would be next.

I just hope this all goes ok, because it really depresses me seeing the car in this state.

I know, there are many of you out there in the same situation, and BELIEVE me, I totally understand the feeling.

I'm excited for you!!!

Always a sense of accomplishment when you conquer something out of your normal abilites

like it was said prctice, tweak machine, practice tweak machine...usually at this stage I want to throw my machine across the floor...twaek some more, practice more...figure out all your troubles are your own fault and not the machines...to a degree, then once you figure you have it, take a deep breath and start welding, followed by swearing, more welding to fix mistakes, more welding, then your done!!

then start grinding!!!

Did I miss anything?
