Building the 400
« on: January 15, 2017, 09:37:20 AM »
Hello everyone... I was wondering what I should do to build my 1970 400 WT motor... I was looking for somewhere between 450 to 500 horsepower. currently the engine is stock with no. 12 heads and has an edelbrock intake and carb on it. I'm running about 10:25:1 compression any ideas about how to get to my goal?

i would check your "actual" compression as oppossed to what the specs say it is.... the 400's are great engines in my opinion and it isn't that hard to get the hp/tq....it just takes money.  stroker kit and heads will get you on or over your mark, but can the rest of the car handle it?
the right diff, the right transmission to match, the right set of tires, upgraded sway bars and/or traction bars........it'll all make a difference
