Let me know what you think on these !
« on: December 28, 2009, 10:09:28 AM »
For the first time ever, my husband Frank tried polishing up the rims.  He did two of them, and he feels pretty proud of himself.
We now need to get the grey cleaned up and repainted.  Of course they are not a Hitman's job, but not too bad if you ask me!

 ;D

Speaking of weights, Frank tried compound, lightly sanding it and Goo Off to get the sticky stuff off from the weight, and it will not come off.  Any suggestions?

they sell wheel weights that stick onto the back of the rim so you don't have that ugly metal one on the front.  also the problme with the ones on the front is they cut into thr finish which is what causes corrosion over time.

Yeah, we didn't take the tire off.  I guess he wanted to see how they would come out first with the two and get a feel for it, and then down the road, we will take the tire off.  But, hey, not too bad for front work! lol

I spent approximately 7 hours a wheel on mine following Hitman's instructions and mine came out wonderfully nice.  Sure was a lot of hard work though.  As far as the paint, use Aircraft Stripper to remove the paint so that you can have them repainted.  Once they are repainted, they will really look sharp.

Wow - 7 hours a wheel.  That's 28 hours.  That's almost a week of work.  That's some serious effort ... BTW, looks great CYA.

Anyone know how to get that mark off from the weight?  Goof Off didn't work, or light sand pappering.
 ???

In a well ventilated (outside is better) area.....

Try soaking it in Goo Gone (or equivalent) - saturate a rag with the stuff and then place the rag over the affected area.

If that doesn't do it, you can try some Lacquer thinner on a different rag. Do not get the thinner on the rubber as it will eat it. Especially if you're using automotive grade lacquer thinner.

Wash off the rim afterwards with some mild dish detergent and water to remove any chemical residue.

Then go back with some rubbing compound followed by some polishing compound.

They look REALLY nice to me. Mine look so bad that the only thing that will make them look better is a new set of 15x8's from Year One.

Really. Mine look like CRAPOLEAUM. Whoever had my car before me looked like they sprayed dry lube on them or something.
