Y88 - TA #2
« on: March 04, 2008, 08:00:39 PM »
First I want to thank everyone that was able to point me in the right direction, answer the questions that I had and all the extra advise.
To the fun stuff...We left Maine at 3:30am Sunday morning and arrived in Barbousville Virginia at about 3:00pm, I went over the car and poked around to
the best of my knowledge to find any issues problems etc. I didn't find any beyond what I had already known (floor pans and the little leak in the back)
Me and my dad unloaded it from the sellers trailer, and loaded it on to ours to the trip on the way home left about 4:30 bill of sale, Clean VA title.
Matching numbers Y88, I have the PHS docs that arrived today with all the information and all the other info from 1978.
Here's the pictures.

There is really no way to tell, unless you take the cluster apart, and look to see if the screws inside have been used. Sometimes, when it is not done correctly ( I DONT know from experience lol) all of the numbers will not be in a straight line.

I've spoken to a few people they say that generally when a car rolls over a digit will be offset from the rest, or that a dye will be used on a digit.
I've checked for both issues, no dye or discoloring, and the digits all line up perfectly.
I only brought the subject up because of the condition of the vehicle, and especially the rims, in the pictures you can see one of the rims as far as a good scope, it's fairly flawless with the exception of age, it has no pitting, no curb rash, it's just a little dirty and needs some elbow grease to make it shine again.
The odometer reads 28,933 obviously without any sure fire way to figure it out though it seems like this could be a low mile car, but Im trying to poke around for more info before I get my hopes up.

GM pieces are still available...lots of repro pieces are out there, too.... Ames, etc.

Be aware there are 2 styles available: one for cars with exterior decor package and ones for cars without (your car apparently does not have this pkg)...so you would want the window sweeps with the thin chrome bead on it (same as you have pictured).

As far as your rollover question you can also check for wear on the brake and gas pedals.  While not exactly a scientific method, a car thats been rolled over is going to have an extreme amount of wear on the pedals where a car that has lower miles will only have moderate wear.

I checked the pedals the gas pedal has about no visable wear on it at all, and the brake pedal has just a small amount on the bottom right corner.

That's usually just a sign that they ride the brake.
