1977 SE Values
« on: January 07, 2014, 01:01:10 PM »
I was hoping to get some input from some SE guys.

Here's 3 cars. In what order would you place these by value.
(all cars have same accessories nothing odd)

1. 1977 SE Y82 auto 400
2. 1977 SE Y82 Manual
3. 1977 SE Y82 auto 403
4. 1977 SE Y82 auto W72

Now the fun part. What average value would you put on these cars in 3 classes.
(Not modified, no 4 link, no special suspension. Just 300-350hp basically stock.)

Classes:
class 1. Nut and bolt frame off restoration, factory fresh.
class 2. Hobbyist restoration looks great can drive it to shows
class 3. Restored simply 10 footer daily driver.

Feel free to copy and paste

             1. 1977 SE Y82 auto 400             2. 1977 SE Y82 Manual             3. 1977 SE Y82 auto 403                4. 1977 SE Y82 auto W72
class 1.
class 2.
class 3.

At the end we can add them all up and shoot for an average.

If you're an SE hater please find something better to do. lol

I'll go first

In order of value. JMO

1977 SE W72 Auto
1977 SE Manual
1977 SE Auto 400
1977 SE Auto 403

             1. 1977 SE Y82 auto 400             2. 1977 SE Y82 Manual             3. 1977 SE Y82 auto 403                4. 1977 SE Y82 auto W72
class 1.            $45k                                             $60k                                       $40k                                              $65K guessing
class 2.            $35k                                             $45k                                       $30K                                              $55K guessing
class 3.            $25k                                             $30k                                       $20k                                              $35K guessing

I haven't really seen any 77 Y82 W72 Autos out there. Maybe they are worth less because they aren't a 4spd. Production numbers are a lot lower but that may not mean anything. I just guessed high. Personally, I'd rather have the 4spd

real world application, just sold a 77 se 4 speed with only 31k actual miles, great shape for 30k, sold a 77 auto w72 in similar shape for 26k.  both were between class 1 and 2, closer to 2 condition.  i think asking prices and sold prices are two different things.

Ok cool, I appreciate the info.

So I'm in the ball park to what you are saying. a high class 1 almost a class 2 sold above $30k even if it is only a grand.

Sorry I mis read your post.

You had a mint car with no miles fresh off a rotisserie and sold it for $31K? No! You did not. You had a 35 year old car with 31k miles on it. That is not a restored car, that's a very nice original DRIVER!

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

That's why this is here. Lets put in your input and see what these cars are actually worth. So far I don't seem that far off

Ahahah you are right. I was tired and mis read the posts.

If he only got $31k for a car in almost brand new condition then he robbed himself. But the bottom line is. when I see SE's selling it's for big money and it's not at the auctions.

I have a buddy of mine who did a frame off nut and bolt restoration on a 77 SE auto and he sold it for $50k

Fast N Loud bought a 77 403 auto driver quality with a questionable motor for $25k

So if you got info please share.

both of the se's we sold we very nice drivers in restored condition and sold on ebay, one to boston and one to the UK.  check the completed listings on ebay to see true values.  A frame off nut and bolt i think would be in the 40K range.  I guess it just depends on what someone wants and what they are willing to pay, timing and luck play a big part in this as well.  I can see the best of the best bringing huge money but that's about it.

Well you are right. It's always about how motivated the buyer is. I was hoping to get a hand full of SE buyers or sellers to chime in.

So a 77 SE 4spd in great condition is worth $31k-$35k

So what is your best opinion of a 77 SE Auto in great condition.

again I really appreciate your input.

I sold my 77 Se 403 auto with 70K miles in category 2 for $21,900 2 years ago. dealers were asking $25K for similar car NOM. I think it was worth more then and certainly is now, but the only ones making offers were dealers and it was $17-18K offers. The average buyer and TA enthusiast thought I was to high.

our se auto w72 one owner car sold for 26k in one day on ebay, probably could of gotten more but i bought it for 16K off local craigslist.   had great paint but there was rust repair prior to repaint in qtr's, and tail panel was poorly repaired, other than that very nice but standard interior with factory non air car.

a fully restored driver condition car 4 speed should get 30k-high 30's, frame off should get much more.  ours was a hardtop and that hurt us some, but the new buyer did not care.

i saw a nice 78 se at mecum last year go for over 60k because two people were fighting over it, all the other bidders stopped at around 40k.
