Need help with '79 spoiler on a '75
« on: February 26, 2007, 10:16:23 PM »
I thought I'd get more bang for my buck posting here and at TAC so...

I've put on my '75 front valance and now my '79 spoiler doesn't seem to fit under the car.  Anyone fabricate the '79 spoiler onto a '75?  These pics show the valance not totally bolted up yet, I've since got it mostly bolted on.

If I can get the spoiler to work I'll just leave the '79 fender flare kit on the car else I'll have to find a '75 set so the car doesn't look... ugly.  Thanks for any help that can be provided!

Rich, the stock 75 chin spoiler is really pretty small.  I suspect you'll have to use the matching 75 wheel flares to get it to match up.  Or else you can get into the fiberglass layup business and make your own. 8)

I checked some pics I have in a book and the front air dam seems to be contoured to the front valance. The '74 valance looks almost the same as the '75 valance. I'm sure if you cut the '79-'81 front air dam to fit, it would be ok. But I think you really need to get the correct parts for your car.

Well, seeing that I've dropped $500 big ones in the past two weeks, I'm somewhat out of money for a little while unless I can find someone who would trade a set of '79 flares and spoiler for a set of '75's straight up.  Barring that I really don't want to drive around like you see it.  So, it's either fabricate the '79 spoiler or remove the '79 flares from the car altogether, which I don't like either.

Kinda in a catch 22.

I say fabricate!

The 79 flares look cool on your car.  Measure what needs to be done to the 79 chin spoiler, get out your Dremel and go at it!  Worst case scenario, you have go go out and get the 75 stuff anyway, best case, it works and you've got a cool custom look!

Rich -- let me know if you need pics of the stock 75 setup for the chin spoiler.  It might be a help if you do go ahead and build a custom one to match the 79 wheel flares.

If you would take some pics of under your car that would be helpful.  I'm gonna need to take you out to lunch as many pics as you've taken for me!

I'm probably going to fab the '79 spoiler to make it work but I need a base to work from.  Not having a valance in the beginning I'm somewhat running in the dark as to where to start.

Here ya' go...

Now before anybody jumps on me, this car is a DRIVER, and it's been DRIVEN hard.  So hard, in fact, that it's on engine #3 at this time (and needless to say the numbers don't match on the engine any longer...).

So is the valance bolted in between the radiator frame and the spoiler?  So you have spoiler, valance then frame and the bolt goes through all three?

Right.  Spoiler is the last thing on -- bolts go through to the radiator support.

OK then, I'll need to remove the tab from the spoiler and then it should bolt right up.  Thanks!!
