Whats the real deal with Pontiac valve seals?
«

So my 78 sat for a long while and I got it back on the road. Its smoking a little bit when I accelerate right off idle. Before pulling the motor I thought I would try a simple valve guide replacement on the car.
But looking online its unclear what guides to use. Do you use just the O-ring style? Can you convert to the Chevy style umbrella seals?
Any tips or pointers greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Have your heads machined for PC-style seals- they control oil consumption much better than the stock oil shields and o-ring.

I'm not pulling the heads. I want to to replace the valve seals to see if that cured the problem.
So is there another solution?
