Were there 4-speed TA's after 79?
« on: September 06, 2016, 11:03:22 AM »
Just a bit confused because some sites say there were, others say 81 did, but 80 didn't? This should be cut and dry, right?

According to this website, no 1980's but definitely 1981's.

As stated, none in 80', but in 81' you could get a 4 speed with a Chevy 305 only. Was basically the Camaro drive train installed in the T/A, and they did not use the side splitter tail pipes either. From factory the 305, 4 speed cars came with straight pipes out just like the Camaro. Many added the splitter tail pipe extensions, but it did not come from factory that way.

The splitter tips were standard on the big engines, so 400-403-455. Not sure how that effected 80-81, it may have been turbo only or optional but straight pipes were much more common.

If I recall all T/A's from 75'-81' had splitter tail pipes from factory, with the only exception being the 81', 305, 4-speed car. 74' and earlier 2nd gens used a straight pipe version.

Could be right Winks in the case of TA's.

Yeah, I know Formulas, and standard Firebirds were different. There were a lot of Formulas built with Chevy engines that had straight exhaust, those with Pontiac engines and Olds engines had splitters in those years. But as stated I was only speaking of T/A's.
