yeah i know but just think about it if everyone starts fixing them up then we will not have any parts cars and refinishing a car would be a multi million dollar project

i wish i could do up a 69 superbee or a 69 charger but i know that will never come.
my daughter loves my old y88 but most of all she loved my redbird and wanted that to be her first car. my 2 year old thinks almost every old car is a trans am but he infact knows the 2nd gen t/a's when he see's them. my 5 year old wants a 78-81 z28 he likes the front better in his own words. I know of a guy who has a 80 or 81 z28 for like $200 i have thought about buying it to have laying around for him when that time comes but hey he's only 5 and has 10.5 years to worry about it yet. My 2 year old did tell me that my 85 cutlass is his though.

you know somethin i know hes only 5 but if you can afford it and the car is lagit and not rusted to no return id buy it. i remmeber going down into my basement into out tiny old garage that you could bearly open the doors to get into the car just so i could sit in it and play with all the knobs and the secret yellow button in the glove box that made missles fire out of the front of the car. he would be stoked and sit in it all the time. i loved havin that car in the garage and i couldn't wait to the day when we pulled it out and i fired her up for the first time. what i could wait for was the amount of money i was going to be putting into it. id tell hiim to start saving his birthday money

Mopars are a lot more expensive aren't they? Besides, my dad would never let me have his car, an all original 1970 Dodge Charger, original engine, original interior, only 47,000 miles... besides over the summer when I wanted a classic of my own this is what we found for the good price so this is what I got. Im glad I have it too, no regrets.

well thats good you have a very sweet car and i couldn't agree with you more about mopars being so bloody expensive to restore. i never understood why my thought was purely becasue they had a hemi motor and everyone wants one of those i dont car who you are. id love to have an old hemi motor those were the balls

they used to be all over and now they are slim pickins around here. lets put it this way what used to be a parts car is now being considered for restore. there are a few around here but they seem to want way too much for them. some guys seem to think a rotted out shell with no motor trans and interior is worth $2500 for say a 79-81 ta. maybe they are now and im just not seeing it.
Title: Re: 1978 starlight black transam h/h hatches new edition to the roost
Post by: Justin on April 13, 2009, 09:04:03 AM
I know what you mean y88rick. My buddy and I found a 72 parts car for him and the old lady says she was $2,000 for it. We were polite and she just kept saying no. She thinks she has a rare car or something. Its a rusted out green/green interior, bench set colum shift, hunk of junk. Then there was this stingray that was actually sinking into the earth and the owner said its not for sale and never will be. Its his art now.  I only know of one T/A. Its in the next town over. Its a 79 black one that has set in this guys driveway for over for years from the first day I saw it. They will all just rust away.
Title: Re: 1978 starlight black transam h/h hatches new edition to the roost
Post by: y88rick on April 13, 2009, 07:45:52 PM
yeah then become worthless and these people think they are worth a ton because of what it once was and what barret jackson says a restored one is worth. but they fail to realize it takes time and money to fix them up to that quality and regardless a former rotted out one will never be worth what a low mile never seen winter taken car off all its life and then restored and trailered car is worth too.

Post by: Kevin on April 13, 2009, 08:27:50 PM
That's why I don't watch these auctions, because it's totally ridiculous. These guys who buy them chiefly as an investment, not necessarily because they love the cars ( maybe they do) but because it's an investment. For me and my car, it's all about the trip along the way to get it the way I want it. I'm taking it one step at a time, trying not to get overwhelmed and enjoying it. I'm bad about ranting around here about this auction stuff, but that's just one thing that gets under my skin. I know this one time a guy posted here about wanting a "pristine super duty formula and such must be low miles for his consideration " that kind of stuff really bothers me, whatever, I enjoy my car my way, they theirs, that's cool I guess.
