Line 1: Body by Fisher (kind of self-explanatory)

Line 2: 79=1979, 05A=built first week of May, 2FS87=body style number (base model), L=Van Nuys assembly plant (N=Norwood), 249815=consecutive fisher body number (and has no direct correlation with the VIN)

Line 3: 19R=black interior (standard??), 19L 19U=Starlight Black lower and upper paint, W=??(not in my info, my Van Nuys built '81 T/A has this W also)

Line 4: 51(not A51??)=modular seats, cgl=(no info for this one, CCI=ttops), B-4017248=?? (no info, agian my '81 T/A has B 4xxxxxx in this location)

Looks like you have a 1979 Starlight Black T/A with a black interior, which may or may not have t-tops (is that cgl really CCI??) Does this info agree with your car?

You can check what engine came with the car by looking at your VIN # and compare the digits here:
http://www.78ta.com/vin1979.htm

That doesn't mean your engine hasn't been changed though....you will need to do further inspection on your part to find out what engine is CURRENTLY in your car.

Well, all Pontiacs use the same basic block so it could be a 301 or a 400 (usually the 400s were mated to 4 spds in '79)
Is the emissions decal still under the hood? It will have the size on it in the upper left corner.

The only way you got a 400 in 1979 is with a four speed.

W=??(not in my info, my Van Nuys built '81 T/A has this W also)
W= Stands for paint type whcih was Water based paint.

Line 4: 51(not A51??)=modular seats
A51 = Bucket Seats
