Title: A Little help on cowl tag
Post by: jocacliff on July 02, 2007, 07:15:12 AM
My vin number is 2W87Z8L105822 which is Pontiac. TA, Coupe, 400cid, 1978, Van Nuys, and production number

My Cowl Tag is

ST78 2FS87 L 040267 BDY
TR 19N A51W19LW19U PNT
09E B - - 283567

I am confused because the tag says it is a Firebird. Am I correct in seeing it is a black car with black vinyl interior? What else can someone get from the tag?

Thanks

Someone else told me they all have the S for Firebird. I know mine does. Not sure why they list the W if they didn't use it.

The 09E tells you that it was built the 5th week of September.

The cowl plate doesn't distinguish between firebird models.  They were all firebirds according to fisher because there was no difference in the body.

yes, everything you see on the cowl tag is correct, you have a 1978 Trans Am black exterior and black interior.
