I have noticed that on every build sheet there is a hand written number, anyone know what this signifies?

Yes, they were numbers of cars as they rolled down the line. It is kinda hard to explain, check out this site for more information:

As a side note, I don't think I've ever seen a number penciled in on a Van Nuys build sheet. Only Norwood sheets.

My bird was from Van Nuys and it did not have a hand written number on the sheet.
