cowl tag info questions
« on: February 08, 2009, 09:35:34 PM »
a few puzzling questions on my trim tag to the y82 i got a few weeks back. well my wife let me take an hour off of the basement tonite. So I decided to read the trim tag.
a few questions im hoping someone will chime in on. so i will fill out my whole trim tag information and then ask questions.

TR 19B A51 19L 19U PNT

Question 1. on my code 2fs87 i thought the s stood for firebird and w was for trans am?
2. 19 b shows my interior being black cloth how can i find out if that is standard or deluxe seats I was assuming the car had black vinyl deluxe seats but i was proven wrong?
3. a31 what does this mean since i cannot find any info on this code spot?

I know the car is a 77 y82 and it was a black on black car most of the interior was replaced with tan interior and some still black kind of two tone. the front seats are black standard vinyl seats which im lead to believe are either the incorrect year or from a camaro. I dont have the phs but i do have partial chunk of the build sheet basically only enough savable from the tank to show the y82 trans am option. any help on my questions to this puzzle would be greatly appreciated.  also with the 05d assembly code does this make the car the low rise shaker or the later say 78 up style shaker? help help help thanks.

1) It's normal for it to state Firebird, it's clarified as a Trans Am by the WS4 on line 3

2) You'll need the PHS or buildsheet to answer that.

3) A31 is power windows.

05D=4th week of May so according to John's info below your car missed the low profile shaker by a week or so.

The date and serial number switch over from 1977 low-profile shaker to high profile shaker was May 19 1977 VIN 2W87Z7N215199 for 400-cid cars and June 2 1977 vin 2W87K7231751 for 403 cars.

Was this the cowl tag on my old car?

If so,

The front seats were from another car (early 70's firebird or camaro as i was told).  The orig drivers seat was ruined when i bought the car as was the carpet and rear drivers seat.   17 yr old kid i bought it from left a car battery on the floor behind the drivers seat and it leaked all the battery acid out and it ate the seats and floor.

All the orig. interior of the car was the camel/brown color, i had slowly changed interior peices over to black as to one day have the entire interior black.  I figured it would never be a numbers matching show car so getting all the parts per the correct year was not a concern of mine.  And i did find a build sheet i got with the car, but i do not know if its the orig to the car or to the seats that i was told were replaced.

I replaced the Lf lower rear seat and the two front seats, but was told the rear upper seat was replaced as this was where the build sheet was located.  So i am unclear as to if its the orig to the car or to the car that the seat came from.  I was lead to believe it was to that car though.........but all in all i bought the car from a 17 year old kid with hopes and dreams so my info is anything but sound from him.
