6X-4 or 6X-8? How do you tell the difference?
« on: March 16, 2010, 05:14:09 PM »
Hey all, I'm sure this question has been posted before, but I'm still a newbie at this. How do you tell the 6X-4 from the 6X-8? What casting numbers do I look for?

I have a set of 4X right now and it's cast on the center exhaust ports. Is this the same for 6X? Will it say 6X-4 or 6X-8?

Thanks for your time, you guys are always a wealth of info.

i believe the 4 or 8 is on the outer ehaust port if my memory serves me correct. so if your looking at the 6X. the 4 or 8 would be on the exhaust port to the right of it.

Time for another famous pic...

The -4 or -8 is the "secondary stamping".  The head casting number is embossed on the center 2 exhaust ports -- the numbers are actually cast into the head and are raised.  The stampings are punched into the boss where shown and may be very light, so you might have to scrape the paint off to see them.
