Yea they did do some mods but when I spoke to Dennis he said they scrapped the turbo project because the engine just couldn't handle the power. That's why they made so few.

guess dennis didnt have a clue, must not be a pontiac person

No, just an old school Pontiac person.  Plus, he couldn't get off the shelf parts easy to slap on (of course this is really all he ever did).

OK, just got the turbo back from Turbos Direct in Glendale AZ. Now, unfortunately, the turbo mounting gaskets have been discontinued. There is a guy on eBay selling them, but he only ships on Saturdays, so it will take 2 weeks to get here. So....I'll have the gaskets made at work Monday, and install the turbo. Then, I can clean it up, and post some nice pics. After I get new tires, which is an entirely different hassle. Apparently, there are very few companies still making RWL tires anymore. A few years back, I bought some Uniroyal Tiger Paws, which I'd love to get, but they are discontinued. Obviously, the BFG Radial TA is still around. It's a great tire, but I just wanted something a little different, more original looking. I think I'll have to go with the BFG regardless. I don't like the Cooper Cobras very much. Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's are still available, but barely, as it's a special order, and will take a few weeks. Who would have thought it would be this much of a pain to get cool tires. Anyway, I also just picked up another Mecham car, a 1984 MSE Trans Am. I have to stop buying cars. I'm running out of room and money. Anyway, pics of the Macho should be posted in the next week or so.

I agree i bought cooper cobras and they SUCK.  the sidewalls are so weak.  when you turn side to side you can physically feel them flopping over.

Firestone Indy 500's shouldn't be a custom order.  I just got a set for my Pace TA a few months ago.  I went in and got a quote the next day I had them mounted.  Everything installed for under $500!!!!  I went with 235/70

OK, latest update. Turbo rebuilt and installed. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Runs excellent! No smoke at all. I went with BFG's on the tires. I drove it about 600 miles since. I must say, I'm pretty impressed with the little 301. It's certainly no big powerhouse, but it's not bad at all, and it's pretty fun. It does get up and move. Much more than I expected. I removed the cat, and ran dual flowmasters. Drives excellent! Tomorrow, I'm replacing the timing cover due to corrosion. I really wanted to post pictures, but I don't have a photo bucket account, and don't know that I'm ambitious enough to get one. I am sending it to the paint shop December 3rd. It will all be redone as original. The original paint in the door jambs and trunk is intact, and perfect. Those will be left alone, and the rest of the car will be color matched to them. Should be done mid January. I'm also going to put Year One 17" snowflakes on it. I love those wheels. Even though it's not original, it's a harmless mod.

Anyway, the car lives again, and will be in amazing shape within the next few months. I love driving this car. It's one of my favorite cars in the collection.

Very cool.  As you can see you will learn to love that little power plant.  With some very little tweaking, you can embarrass the hell of a lot of other cars out there.  It's great to hear that turbo spool up and when it's not, you'll be getting some serious MPG too!!!!!

Chad,
Welcome to Hitman's TA forum. I also live in Santa Clarita, and would love to see the macho T/A and your other Pontiacs sometime.
