'79 doors
« on: December 12, 2010, 09:22:38 PM »
OK, I bought a pair of doors for my '79 TA from CA and they are rust free, have a few dents from shipping but they were for a power window car..  I have a manual window car at the moment and I want to keep it that way.  My doors have the usual rust near the bottom corners and inside bottom seals but aren't in horrible shape.

My question is, should I keep the doors and just try and fix the rust or should I swap them out with the CA doors?  Will it be hard to convert the power window doors to manual?

Piece of cake to convert. Drill out the 4 rivets on the power window stuff and swap out regulators. Bolt your regulators into the same holes on the new doors. Simple as pie. I lost my pictures but Im sure some of these guys have some to post.

The holes are in different places for the manual and power window regulators.  Compare the power window doors to the manual ones and you'll see the difference.  You can swap them though.

Hey Russ, I did a poor job explaining that. That is absolutely correct. I was trying to say put the manual regulators in the 79 doors using the holes that are in the same position as the manual regulators are currently installed in. Whew...

Also the power window doors will have a hole where the wires lead to the body hull you can buy used GM plastic plub hole covers to cover these with to avoid wind and road noise from entering the inner door structure as you drive.

Yeah, I got tangled up trying to write my response too!  Glad you're back!

The guts have been removed from the power window doors all ready so its basically just the shell.  Do this matter any?

Doesn't matter at all just use everything from your manual windows door and you are all set. Very simple swap as I went the other way from manual to electric.
