has anyone used any of the TBI kits?
any words on what you've used? what works? what doesn't? brand?

I'm currently working on a stroked (4.25) 0.030 over 400. ok, more like my friend who has experience building Pontiac race engines is working on it and letting me "assist". full roller assembly. single plane manifold. the only 'stock' piece is the block.
anyway, he is telling me what he thinks will be the pro's and cons of a holley 650 DP vs a 750 or 850 DP. says the 650 will give me a more crisp launch and give me a lot better 'daily' driveability over the larger carbs, but will basically starve for air in the higher RPM range. while a larger carb will offer full upper-band HP but dog out a little off the line without a high stall convertor (which I really want to stay away from).
also says a TBI unit with variable cfm ability {should} be just the ticket, offering both driveability and full power potential. thing is, he's not sure, as he has never used a TBI. his applications were all full-race with huge carbs.
this is my dilemma; I already have the 650 double pumper that I can clean up and rebuild for $50. while a TBI is upwards of $1,500.
I am willing to eat raman noodles for a few weeks (or moths) in order to get a TBI if it's worth it, but I don't want to do so on a "maybe, might, or should"...
any help?
