A/C system - questions and suggestions
« on: April 08, 2007, 07:13:20 AM »
I've replaced my compressor, accumulator, and the suction line/muffler assembly on my 77. It had been converted to R134a by a previous owner. I'm trying to decide:

Do I stick with R134a?
Do I go back to R12?
Do I go to an alternative refrigerant (like Freeze12)? http://www.freeze12.com/

I know I need to flush the coils and old line, vacuum evacuate the system, and add oil (what type?).

I also bought a variable rate fixed orifice tube (I was going to use for 134a) http://thepartguy.com/images/PartsForSale/ACandHeating/Valves/FOT-Variable.jpg - can I use this with other refrigerants?

Is there anything else I need to do?

Stay with the R-134 because the R-12 is very expensive and you might not be able to find it in the U.S. in a few years. There have been a few other responses to your post on TAC too.
