1977 W72 Pontiac 400: Y6, YG (automatic) WA (manual) block code
what's the difference between the Y6, YG block? is one early 77 and other late 77?

Y6 is the W72 400 (auto) for '77...I'm not aware of a YG in '77.

I don't think there's a YG. I think that it's just easy to mistake the Y6 for YG, so in some places (I think on this site as well), it's listed as Y6 and YG.

rick I have both. Y6 and WA motors. tha auto is #'s to it's car. but will sell the WA block

i'd love to have a w72 motor but if im going to go through the hassle, i'd like to get a y6 and i wouldnt need heads either as i still have those just no longer have the correct y6 block and even if it isnt #'s for my car, atleast it would be a correct style block.

The YG engine is listed in the GM parts catalog for the engines and original GM liturature, so it is not a typo or a mistake.

Bit of a strech but that Y6/YG block if you've still got for sale, what was the partial VIN on that one? Been trying to track down an old engine for a SE T/A
