production "qwerks"
« on: February 16, 2010, 01:42:24 AM »
just looking thru the Y/O catalog and noticed some production #s for '76 seem to be absent. they have totals for the 400 but not broken down by trans.(like other yrs.)  also they call the 455 an HO ('75 and '76) but ive never seen any HO call outs since '72.  are these just a few more "querks" in the T/A history?  also one more thing...no manual trans. T/As in '80 (think i had heard that before)
'76 T/A 455 4sp   sold
'78 T/A Y88 auto  sold
'79 T/A WS6 4sp
'70 Z/28 4sp

The 455 was re-introduced in April 1975 as an "HO" engine.  The only "HO" thing about it was the decal on the shaker -- otherwise, it was simply a station wagon 455 running regular D-port heads and using standard "log" cast exhaust manifolds.  It was only available in combination with the 4-speed -- GM never certified it for use with the automatic transmission.
