« on: October 19, 2007, 11:39:59 AM »
Just came back from a friends shop,  and low and behold there a 69 trans am converible, Its has a ls1 twin turbo in now but he wants to turn it back to original but needs to know what he has.
so the vin code is 223679N117692,  So here is the questions i have for ya,
1. how rare is this car?
2. what would be a correct date code for a motor and size, and date code for the tranny,

I'll get pictures when i go back to the shop next time. and post them ,but thanks for your help.

The "67" means it's a convertible. The VIN you gave does translate into a '69 T/A (built in Norwood) V-8 convertible.
Only 697 T/A's built in '69...and only 8 were convertibles. You may want to check into this further as the info you have given does make sense.

You'll need cowl data to give you the date but PHS would be a good investment. Prepare to pay a LOT if it's for sale.
Keep us informed.

The car is not for sale But as for anything money talks, Be fore i make a offer i need to know what it realy is.  The cars owner got the car in a pakage deal . He was after a split window vett, but the cars came as a package. I know he paid big money for the pair, but the vett was worth  what he paid. will keep you posted.

From the VIN you provided, it appears to be the real deal.
Price could be anywhere across the board...$50K + (that "plus" can get pretty expensive ;))
Pix would help...and be appreciated. ;D

Did I misread Hitman's info?

Last 6 digits - Production Number
100001/up = 8 Cyl. Engine
600001/up = 6 Cyl. Engine

No problem, Hammer...I just wanted to make sure I wasn't giving the wrong info. Yeah, I'd like to see cowl tag AND PHS, esp if it's a ragtop.

I saw one exactly like that about a month ago.  I didn't realize they were so rare.  The one I saw was cruising down the road.

Can I whine for a moment?

Why can't I find a nice car like that!!!!!  Is it too much to ask!!!  All I see are beat up non interesting T/A's...mostly with 403's...and nothing earlier than 76.  1976 happens to be the cut off for smog tests in California...before 76 you're free to do whatever.

OK...thanks, I'm done whining.

I think he was under-estimating the value of the car.  IF the car is a true 1969 Trans Am Convertible, then the price of the car would be about $500,000.  I think he forgot a zero in there.  IF it is a true 1969 Trans Am Convertible 4-Speed, then that price would be about $750,000.... give or take a few hundred thousand dollars.

I agree with you.   I don't know how much it is worth as like previously mentioned,  there were only 8 REAL convertible 69 TA's made.  Needless to say they do not sell too often to get a true value on.  But either way it would pay for a  nice small home.

I agree with, Hitman on the price.  Then again, I recall a 69 trans am convertible 4 spd at Barrett Jackson go for $295,000.  I'm sure the owner was disappointed
