For 79 Special Edition, should the front grille be black with gold trim? If so, is this part available to buy with two tone color or do you need to buy the black version and paint the gold on your own? Also, should the gold trim cover just the outer edge of the grille or should it cover outer edge plus the inner side walls right back to the black grille air vent openings/slots? I have seen both in photos claiming to be original SE trim for 79 models. Appreciate the feedback.

I am not too sure on the color, but yes you can by them. I think classicindustries.com has both new old stock and reproduction units. They only come in black. I purchased reproduction units for my 79 a while back. I am quite pleased with overall quality.

Gold surround, black grille, same as other years.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you know where you can buy the correct color gold paint?

Various brands have their version. You want the same as what is used for Gold Snowflake rims, Pontiac paint code 55, PPG 82352. It has been listed as Special Edition Gold and Placer Gold too.

There are many listed on this site, along with other information. https://www.78ta.com/Pages/paint.htm
