you will want to scuff your primer before paint. weather it be wet or dry sanding. 600 or 800 may be overkill but is for better results. depending on what paint you are using you can do down to 320 if base clear and 220 if an enamel. just make sure you have no bare metal under that seam sealer or you will allow the car to rust itself out well before you can see it.

Its a rattle can a wire wheel will take it off but it takes forever. I can test a small area but I am not sure what to look for

Hey guys got another question for you. Instead of continuing to try and get this factory primer off where can i buy red oxide primer so I can just respray it? And is red oxide primer compatable as a primer with a laquer based top coat?

I found red oxide primer at my local Tractor Supply made by Plasti-kote its a lacquer based primer. Would I be able to spray that over the factory primer with no problems?  http://www.tractorsupply.com/plasti-kote-reg-automotive-sandable-primer-spray-red-oxide-12-oz--3455034 This is the paint I am looking at. Sorry for the 20 questions I have never done body work/ painting myself.

i would use a nice 2k epoxy primer to make sure its sealed in really well personally

X2... average primer can be very pourous and thus will let moisture through to form rust again

An epoxy primer sealer doesn't have the same pourous properties and will shield the metal to prevent rust from happening again!!!!

BUt as it is said like a looped track...it is your car you do what you want, this is just teh best option with the best results!!

Ok and that will work fine over the stock primer and with a lacquer topcoat? Also does the epoxy come in a rattle can or a quart? I have never used a paint gun before but I do have one.

Ok thanks. Quick up date I bought some aircraft stripper to finish cleaning the firewall, and to take the old coat of paint off my snowflakes. Just waiting for the rain to stop.
Hope to have pics of progress soon, if mother nature will play nice.

Wow its been a few days sense I have posted lol. Well the rain finally lifted (for now) and I can finally get to work. I am so tired of red oxide factory primer lol. Ok paint stripper was no fun made a mess, got some in my eye, and worked great for everything but the factory primer. So I said to heck with it and pulled out my sand blaster lol. Will post pictures of the (If I am lucky) finished product tomorrow. Now I need help clarifying a few things, first my seam sealer doesn't say to paint first but I know it would be better if I did. Can it be put on top of self-etching primer? and my top coat is a Lacquer and I found out they don't sell a 2 part lacquer primer in California. But this product has been brought up by many people. http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=171 and in the product info it says "Accepts all automotive and
industrial topcoats" So can I use it under a lacquer or will the top coat still peel?

I do wanna use epoxy but I am kinda short on funds due to some not so pleasant things that have happened and feather fill G2 is only 75 a gallon. I was even told to use it by a body shop that does show cars. I just don't know if it will cause the paint to peel. Doug, Rick, what do you think? Also I dropped my tank yesterday and depressing as it is still no build sheet. This is what I have been up to the last ten days.
