78 Trans Am WS6 4 speed W72 full documents
« on: January 17, 2016, 10:28:48 AM »
Hello all. Newbie from Oklahoma. Picked up my first TA yesterday and I think it's a good one. First off let me say I've got $9,400 in this car. 78 Trans Am WS6 4 speed W72, 69,500 miles, full documents, numbers matching, completely unmolested car as it rolled off the showroom in 78. Been in storage for 15-20 years. Normal wear items have been replaced only. All factory body, paint, decals, interior., even the exhaust is factory. It even has Ziebart Rust protectant installed back in 78 and I have the ticket for that. Original sales tickets from dealer, window decal, build sheet, odometer mileage statement, it's all there. Turns out it even has the W72 option under hood. So, what's this car worth as she sits?  Thanks

With those options, I think you did good at that price. I think at the most 10-12k for it as it is. Yes, it is original, but it does need some work cosmetically. I like the originality because you know what you have to start with. I always have liked those Marty cars. I like that it is a hardtop car, that alone to me makes it worth more to me, but there are many out there that would pay more for a hatch roof. With a repaint and interior work, 20-22k at most. If you are in it to try to make money for a flip, I would leave it alone and clean it up real good and sell it as is, otherwise you are going to have more in it than you will get back out of it. Very nice find, and personally if I bought it, I would drive it just as it is.

Cool thanks. I'm not sure how I lucked into it. I have owned several Chevelles and a Nova that was almost too slick to drive. So my plans are to drive this car and as is and enjoy it. Not worry so much about rock chips, door dings, etc...  It's a blast to drive so far.

Yes, they did a lot of one year only colors. In 79' they changed the shade to a little bit lighter color and called it Atlantis Blue, then for 1980 it became Tahoe Blue, and they all have the same paint code of 24. Just about every year they change the shade of several of the colors and renamed them, and a lot of them they kept the same paint code. Heck they even changed Starlight Black to just Black in 1981.

Did you check under the back seats then...  That dealer where you car came from is four miles from my home and now is a GMC dealer...... If you give the car a good cleaning and buff the paint you will be amazed it will look like a total different car......

going to take the carpet out of it today. Needs replaced anyway, or at least cleaned and de funked. I'll be looking for that paper while I'm at it.
